To all of Dave Peters's family, Monica and Melissa, Joshua and I send our heartfelt condolences to you all.
To those who don't know, Dave became part of our family in 1977. My senior year took a new twist one day when I was asked by my Mom [Pat Jessip] now you noticed I said mom and not Dad, you see Mom ran the house and Dave needed a place to stay [sleep] until Gay and Dave were ready to relocate to Atlanta GA.
I want his sisters to know and understand that Dave was a friend first before he became a brother-in-law. One story that has many will be the White Van:
Let's talk about the white van only for some humor, especially for those who ever rode in the van.
Now my younger brother Larry will remember sleeping in it Van during December 1977 at Gay and Dave's wedding at his mother's home. For the rest of us, it was a get in and sit on the floor and hold on.
With this said, I want to say thank you for being you. I never saw you get mad openly; you always had humor and laughter, at least around me [Terry] when I was home my senior year and then coming back on leave from the Marines.
One of my favorite stories was our World of Fun's trip. I remember all of us piling into the white van and heading off to Worlds of Fun the summer of 1979. My Marine buddy Earl Rock and his brother and friend and Lisa Hoffman and all of the Jessip's loaded up and off we went to enjoy our night and fellowship with one another.
I had a great night at this amusement park. We all had some form of laughter. I'm not sure how many this van could hold, but we did make it work.
Look, you took time to have a beer with me, we went out late one night and by the time we got back to 422 S. Chestnut, my Mom [Pat] and Gaylene we're stewing over our departure, we forgot to tell them we were going out. Oh, what a night.
During the short amount of time I had with you, we went fishing in some of them off the wall places between Olathe and Lawrence Kansas, this was cool, but most of all, Dave, I'll never forget your beard.
Sorry for all the heartaches you endured throughout life, I'm glad we got to meet and be apart of your life. From the visit with you and Gaylene in your home in GA and visiting your friends while I was on leave to seeing College Park GA and getting a tour, that was cool.
You're a good cook. Talented craftsman, and now you're in God's hands.
