Richard Edward Roughton 90, Spring Hill, Kansas passed away Monday, December 30, 2019 at Travanse Living, Olathe, Kansas. A Celebration of Life will be at a later date. Richard was born July 23, 1929 in Lyman, Washington to Richard Cooper and Violet Marie (Carlson) Roughton. He graduated from Monroe High School in Washington and attended University of Washington. Richard was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1951-1954. He married Ernestine M. Hester on September 20, 1952. After college, Richard worked for Boeing for many years, including being the project manager for the Lunar Rover program. After Ernestine’s death, Richard married Shirley Ann Glenn on February 14, 1998. He was the plant manager for Windsor Mobile Homes, Newton, Kansas. Richard traveled extensively with his job. After retiring from the mobile home business, he worked as a paraprofessional with the Lyons School District, Lyons, Kansas for several years. Richard enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Richard moved to Spring Hill in 2018 to be with family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wives Ernestine and Shirley and his brother Doug. He is survived by his children: Sandra (Steve) McVey, Spring Hill, Kansas, Karen (David) Ware, Chapin, South Carolina, Cindy (Gary) Waltrip, Oaks, Oklahoma, Brian (Lai-Har) Roughton, Collierville, Tennessee, Glenn (Lorie) Fortmayer, Omaha, Nebraska and Abby (Ron) Fortmayer, Breaux-Carencro, Louisiana; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
