Martha "Suzi"  Gottstein (Nicolay)
Martha Sue “Suzi” Gottstein, 73, of Baldwin City, KS, passed away May 19, 2018 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be held 10:00 am Thurs., May 24, 2018 at Gardner Church of Christ, 158 W. Park St., Gardner, KS. Burial follows at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 pm Wed., May 23, 2018 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gardner Church of Christ or the Baldwin Education Foundation. Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com

Suzi was born March 19, 1945 in Emporia, KS to James Edwin and Betty Berniece (Burd) Nicolay. She moved to Baldwin City as a young child and was a long time resident. Suzi graduated from Baldwin City High School and attended Kansas State for one semester. She married John C. Gottstein, Sr. in Baldwin City, KS on Sept. 20, 1964. Suzi was a school bus driver and then a secretary at Baldwin City High School for a total of 22 years of service; retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Gardner Church of Christ. Suzi was a seamstress and baker. Her specialty was cookies and wedding cakes. She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening and loved “her girls” (chickens). Most of all she loved being a farmer’s wife, homemaker and Ma. Suzi will be dearly missed by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary and husband Rod Anderson. Suzi is survived by her husband, John, of the home; children: John Clifford Gottstein, Jr. and wife Norma, Lawrence, KS, Nancy Sue Corns and husband Randy, Altoona, KS and Deborah Jean Sledd and husband Jamie, Osage, IA; brother, Ed Nicolay and wife Betty, Baldwin City, KS and eight grandchildren.
