Beverly Bubeck
Beverly Ann Bubeck, 84, of Wellsville, KS passed away January 10, 2018. Memorial service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, KS 66030 913-856-7111. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com

Beverly Ann Smith was born June 27, 1933 to Ralph Edwin and Elizabeth Kellog (Stannard) Smith. She grew up in Denver and had many fond memories of camping and fishing trips to the mountains with her parents and sister. Bev graduated from East Denver High School in 1951. She attended Colorado Women’s College and met her future husband, Gary William Bubeck while they were working on a parade float together.

She transferred to Denver University where Gary was schooling and was a member of the D.U. Ski team. They married in September of 1954. Bev worked for the FBI while her husband finished school and officer candidate school. In 1955, she gave birth to her first son, Kyle. In 1957, she traveled to Germany as an army wife and attended the University of Maryland Germany. In 1959, Bev and family moved to her husband’s home state of Wisconsin and gave birth to her second son, Gary. They soon moved to Rochester, MN. There Bev tended to the business of raising her boys, riding her Quarter horse and found herself giving a great amount of time helping others through volunteer work.

Bev worked two years at the Minnesota State Psychiatric Hospital and another three years at the Minnesota State Reformatory for boys. In late 1965, her family moved to the Kansas City area, where she again started volunteering as a Grey Lady at the Kansas City Hospital for two years. At that time, Bev learned to draw, paint and became quite the artist in oil paints. Bev went back to school again and earned a degree in French Studies from Avila College.

Once again, Bev found herself volunteering a great amount of energy and time driving two and three times a week for 4 1/2 years to the Kansas State Penitentiary at Lansing, teaching prisoners how to read. She spent another two years reading to Alzheimer’s’ Patients in nursing facilities. Bev was a member of COR United Methodist Church. Bev was quite an accomplished cook and loved to entertain guests at home dinner parties and particularly family at Thanksgiving. She loved her dogs and over the years had 12 in all. She enjoyed tennis with friends, loved Colorado, was quite the traveler and loved walking the World with friends. But most of all, she loved her grandchildren: Bear, Roo, Kelboy, Pill & Tubo.

Her generosity of giving time and resource to others is under matched by her patience and forgiveness as a result of her faith in God, which carried her through the most difficult times of her life.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Elizabeth Smith; husband of 34 years, Gary William Bubeck; brother, Ralph Stannard Smith; sister, Betty Carol Whaley; brother-in-law, Wesley T. Whaley and other family and friends. She is survived by her sons: Kyle Roger (Kathy) Bubeck and Gary Michael (Denise) Bubeck; grandchildren: Christopher Kyle (Kellie) Bubeck, Kellan L. Moore, Kelly Melissa (Brent) Bubeck, Lilia Estelle Bubeck and Gary “Nolen” Bubeck; cousins: Jackie and Judy Eads; niece, Christy (John Sullivan) Whaley; nephews: Michael (Sandy) Whaley and Scott Whaley and other family and friends.
