Obituary for Willie "Gene" Camp
Willie “Gene” Camp, 74, of Spring Hill, KS passed away Sept. 5, 2017 at his home. Memorial service will be 1:30 pm Sat., Sept. 16, 2017 at Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill, KS (913) 592-2244. Gene was born June 2, 1943 in Jordan, AR to Willie Cyrus and Mary Bell (Sanders) Camp, who were poor migrant farmers during the depression. He was the youngest of eleven children. Gene voluntarily enlisted in the US Army during Vietnam. Around 1980, Gene moved to Spring Hill, KS where he lived the remainder of his life.
Gene was a master plumber and a proud member of Local #8 United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters’ Union, KC, MO. Gene enjoyed fishing, camping and loved the Royals, Chiefs and auto racing. Throughout the 1980’s, he raced his own stock car at Riverside Speedway. Gene was a car lover and recently treated himself to a brand new red Corvette, which he was very proud of.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Gene is survived by (son) Don and wife Michelle Camp, Spring Hill, KS, (son) Joe and wife Nicole Camp, Houston, TX, (daughter) Tammy and husband Dennis Smith, Tulsa, OK, (brother) Dub and Geneva Camp, Willard, MO, (sister) Kay and Dan Haberman, Buffalo City, AR, (sister) Lottie Kuhn, Wilcox, AZ, (sisters-in-law) Ruby Camp, Lenexa, KS, and Tina Camp, Belton, MO. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gene was loved by many and will be missed by all.
