Charles “Bill” Buckingham, Jr., 79, of Gardner, KS, passed away July 21, 2017. Visitation 4-6:00 pm Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, KS 66030 913-856-7111. Bill was born September 29, 1937 in Kansas City, KS to Charles William, Sr. and Josephine Marie (Jones) Buckingham. He grew up in Wyandotte Co. and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1956. He attended UMKC then served in the National Guard for three years and the Reserves for six years. Bill married Joyce C. Foster on February 4, 1956 in Harrisonville, MO. They moved to Gardner Lake in 1968. He worked as a Printer and Regional Manager for DeLuxe Printing in Lenexa for 25 years. Bill then owned BBF Printing Co. for four years. He attended Gardner Baptist Church, was a Scout Master for Troop #3088 in Gardner and was a member of the Gardner Golf Course that he helped build. Bill coached baseball for Gardner youth. He also coached Lakeside Vaulters, working with several Olympians. He was an avid, award-winning Trap Shooter and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be missed by family and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Virgil Brent Buckingham; two great-grandchildren; sisters: Josephine, Carol and Katie and former daughter-in-law, Debbie. He is survived by his wife of the home; children: Charles “Billy” William Buckingham, III, Jeffrey Brian and Terri Buckingham and George Eric and Tonya Buckingham all of Gardner, KS; five grandchildren: April, Barbie, Jeffrey, Ashlee and Jacque; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Bruce Eric Buckingham of Parkville, MO and sister, Connie of North Carolina.
