Obituary for Shirley Cooper
Shirley Ann Cooper, 79, of Gardner, KS passed away April 14, 2017 at Vintage Park. Graveside service will be held 11:30 am Wed., April 19, 2017 at Gardner Cemetery, Gardner, KS. Visitation 10:00 to 11:00 am before the service at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Shirley was born Sept. 30, 1937 in Hillsboro, KS to John Henry and Martha (Kaiser) Yost. She married Gary Franklin Cooper on July 14, 1955 in Weatherford, TX. They lived in Edgerton, KS from 1967 to 1977 and moved to Gardner in 1977. Shirley worked as a cook at Edgerton Elementary and as a nurses’ aide at Gardner Medicalodge for twenty years. She was a fantastic caregiver who loved taking care of people. Shirley’s main focus was her family. She enjoyed playing cards, KU basketball, Bingo and 61 Country Radio. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Gary, in 1991. Shirley is survived by daughters: Merle and husband Larry Schick, Gardner, KS, Candy and Clay Hughes, Wellsville, KS and Cindy and Brian Walters, Paola, KS; half-sister, Mary Westcott, KS; aunt, Arlene “Sis” Cooper Armstrong, Tonganoxie, KS; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
