Obituary for Charles "Charlie" Stottlemire
Charles “Charlie” LeRoy Stottlemire, 90, of Olathe, passed away March 8, 2017 at Olathe Med. Center. Funeral service will be held 10:30 am Tues., March 14, 2017 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Burial follows at De Soto Cemetery, De Soto, KS. Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 pm Mon., March 13, 2017 also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Olathe American Legion Post #153. Charlie was born Dec. 9, 1926 in Maitland, MO to Burl Fredrick and Addie Bell (Taylor) Stottlemire. He grew up in Graham, MO where he also attended school. He joined the US Army where he served during the Korean War. Charlie married Shirley Baker June 20, 1966 after his Army service and they lived in De Soto. He moved to Paola after Shirley’s death and finally moved to Olathe. Charlie worked in the Charging Dept. at Delco-Remy Battery in Olathe, KS. He was a member of the Olathe American Legion Post #153. Charlie enjoyed woodworking and participating in tractor pulls at local county fairs. He helped build and finance garden tractors for the pulling events. He will be missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley, in 1986 and brothers: Robert, Vernon, Morris, Burl Jr. and Leon Stottlemire. Charles is survived by his son, Dennis and wife Sheryl Lea Stottlemire, Olathe, KS and daughter, Marcia Vasquez, Lebanon, MO; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings: Dorothy Hendrix, KCMO, Bonnie Clayton, Salt Lake City, UT, Clara Mason, KCKS, Homer Stottlemire, Wellsville, KS, Gladys Jackson, Ft. Worth, TX and Ted Stottlemire, Broken Bow, NE.
